Introduction to the various outcomes of poetry (Free Verse, Cinquain, Haiku, Sonnet).
Knowing that poetry is more than just words on paper – it transcends words.
Being able to identify various types of poetry by the rhyme scheme
An understanding of rhyme scheme and meter
Knowing that there are more types of poetry than what will be taught in the unit out there, and knowing what some of the types of poetry are.
Knowing how poetry can impact their lives and improve their understanding of the world.
Unrelated outcome: Introduction to the Japanese Language (Linguist at heart…)
Unrelated outcome: Help the students learn to think about what web-sites they go to, and how they approach searches online for information. Finally, help the begin to see why they thing sources are appropriate, and how they judge sources.
